Two proclamations were given at the Sebastian City Council Meeting on March 23rd, 2022.
The first was the Treasure Coast Society Children of the American Revolution for the N.S.C.A.R. National Day of Service.
Holly Hamilton and N.S.C.A.R. Florida State President and Society President for the Treasure Coast Society Children of the American Revolution Cidney Rigard had received the award on the behalf of the Treasure Coast Society Children of the American Revolution
The article read:
This is a proclamation in celebration of the Children of the American Revolution Day of Service, April 5th, 2022.
Whereas the National Society of Children of the American Revolution, is the nation's oldest and largest patriotic youth organization, founded April 5th, 1895. and;
Whereas the National Society Focuses on Patriotism, Service and Education, about our American Heritage. and;
Whereas, the Treasure Coast Society is active in our local community promoting this vision to the residents of our city and the surrounding community. and;
Whereas, the Treasure Coast Society is dedicated to helping with the youth in our community through the kids helping kids progrma committee.
And now therefore I, Jim Hill, by virtue in me, by the Authority Vested in me as the Mayor, of the City of Sebastian, Florida, do hereby proclaim, the City of Sebastian strongly supports the ideals and objectives of the National and Treasure Coast Society, of the Children of the American Revolution and witness thereof, I have heren to set my hand to call the City of Sebastian this 23rd day of March 2022.
Cidney Rigar had given remarks during the acceptance of the Proclamation by the City. She thanked the City for issuing the Proclamation and spoke about the education they do for young people on the patriotic values of the United States. She mentioned that the society is led by individuals ages 0-21 years of age.
She spoke about how this year, N.S.C.A.R. "will be making cards for children undergoing cancer treatments at the Arnold Palmer Children's Cancer Center in Florida."" Rigar said that N.S.C.A.R.'s State Project in 2022 and 2023, will be to raise "funds to support children's cancer research through this center and will be supporting the children by providing funds and encouragement for children there." She thanked the City of Sebastian supporting N.S.C.A.R.'s "effort for kids helping kids, COPE and recognizing our organization's National Day of Service and the Children of the American Revolution" and expressed her appreciation.
Holly Hamilton had spoken, thanking the City and presented a gift to Mayor Hill.
The second proclamation was for Florida Gopher Tortoise Day - April 10, 2022
The proclamation read:
WHEREAS the Gopher Tortoise has been on the Earth for 500,000 thousand years to 2 Million Years. and;
WHEREAS the Gopher Tortoise today is listed as threatened in the State of Florida and the United States of America. and;
WHEREAS the Gopher Tortoise is considered a keystone species, its borough protects more than 300 other commensial species, some of which are also listed as threatened.
WHEREAS, having Gopher Tortoises and having other species in our area helps to sustain the area's ecology and provide man with a source of joy and appreciation for nature.
Now therefore, I Jim Hill, the Mayor of the City of Sebastian, do hereby proclaim April 10th, 2022, as Gopher Tortoise Day.
