Camp Hummingbird Asks for Donations for Local Homeless

October 1, 2022; Updated October 2, 2022

Local Non-profit Camp Hummingbird Shelters and Retreats Inc. Is asking for new or used items for the homeless residents of Indian River, Martin, St. Lucie Counties.

Camp Hummingbird President Jennifer Rahm told Indian River News “Many people may have these items laying around their house or garage that the homeless need. I really want to start a new trend where tents and tarps are donated instead of sold, even if it’s damaged. I would like to encourage people to donate old Tents and Tarps to any Homeless organizations!”

The following are items requested for donation:

  • Tents and Tarps

  • Dry Bedding

  • Socks

  • Tennis Shoes

  • Clothes

  • Food

  • Anti bacterial wipes for cleaning body without water access

  • Backpacks

  • Deodorant

  • Buy Spray

Donations are being collected as the rain and wind from Hurricane Ian has ruined the tents and tarps used for housing for the homeless.

Donations can be dropped off at Roundhouse Arcade, located on U.S. 1 near the City of Sebastian. Address is 11390, U.S. 1, Sebastian, Florida 32958. Donations may also be picked up.

Donors are asked to contact Camp Humming Bird prior to dropping off donations so that a volunteer can be made available to collect donations.
