Former President and Presidential Candidate Donald J. Trump has marked his return to X, formerly Twitter, on August 24, 2023 after a 2 and half year hiatus from the platform.
He shared the following post featuring his mugshot with the Fulton County, Georgia Sheriff’s Office where he was indicted earlier on August 24, 2023.
President Trump was banned on Twitter after the illegal protest at the United States Capital Building on January 6th, 2021 despite the fact he asked people to be peaceful and later asked that everyone go home. His account was reinstated when billionaire Elon Musk purchased X and took the company into private ownership. President Trump opted out of participating in the first 2023 Republican Primary Debate to instead do an interview with Tucker Carlson. The interview can be viewed by watching below or clicking here.

President Trump is the most recent former President to pursue reelection after being voted out of office. Prior to Trump’s third run for President, the only other instance was with Democratic President Grover Cleveland, who successfully ran for a second term. In his case, he defeated his successor, Republican President Benjamin Harrison, grandson of President William Henry Harrison, who was a member of the Whig Party.
